Ahnyeongeveryone!I just finished watching Rain or Shine and I can't get enough of Lee Jun-ho. In this video I have shared my thoughts on this drama that has Thisdrama BREAKS the STEREOTYPES of a normal kdrama!!! - the male lead is NOT portrayed as a wealthy powerful man with whole of the universe revolving around him - he is NOT someone who is chased by dozens of girls for his popularity - the female lead is not negative minded and is really a positive minded person Its slow burn, but watching them together is just so comforting and happy. It's a fresh type of feeling I get despite the traumas that the characters went through. Their actions, dialogues, and every moment are always so pure, sincere, so personal, and simply just feels so intimate, warm, realistic, and full of love. Theres a strong emphasis on subtle human emotion and quiet sadness, which makes for a poignant viewing. In many ways it feels exactly right for this type of storytelling, but it's up to personal taste whether this can become a deal-breaker for some viewers. That being said, the drama is not dull by any means. ✨ Texto Alessandra Borges Revisão Hope Title Just Between Lovers, Rain or Shine, Just in Love Episodes 16 Genre Drama, Tragedy, Romance, Family, Accident, Melodrama Story 9 out of 10 Characters 8 out of 10 Cinematography 8 out of 10 The Drama was filmed in Busan I have a confession to make, dear reader, I am a sucker for melodramas. And Just Between Lovers was one of the best Korean Drama Molodramas I have ever watched. The story is original and unique and the darkness of it all, just enough to keep us going. So, if you are a melodrama lover like I am, you should definitely give this one a try. Story Moon Soo wants to be an architect. But she hasn’t gotten her break yet. So, she works at her mother’s sauna. Years ago, she and her sister had gone to a shopping center, where her sister, a kid model, was to film a commercial. Moon Soo was supposed to watch out for her, but she walked away to meet a boy she was texting. A few minutes later, an earthquake brings the building down. Moon Soo is saved after a while, but her sister is lost. Her mother blames her for that and she even got divorced from their dad. Walking back to her house one day, Moon Soo finds a man nearly beaten to death. She helps him. After that, she gets hired in a project to rebuilt that shopping center that had caused her and her family so much suffering. Regardless, Moon Soo takes the offer. She then meets that man that she saved, Kang Doo. Kang Doo was too in the shopping center when it had collapsed. He had seen Moon Soo and had been amazed by her. After the accident, and while stuck underneath the ruins, he had helped her survive. Unfortunately, he injured his leg and his dreams of becoming a football player vanished. He had been getting by since then by doing odd jobs, with no real purpose in life. Even though they shared the same tragic past, they managed to make each other happy The story was really dramatic and, especially when it came to the tragedy, they presented it so well that the characters’ feelings were easily coming through. The couple was two people struggling to forget what had happened to them and move on, each one in its own way. However, the ending was too cliché for me. Although I was relieved, it could have been presented better. Characters Moon Soo is the leading lady of the drama, a strong young woman who struggles to overcome her problems. Her dreams of becoming an architect are tangled with her past, which she can’t escape. Her family problems are even worse, as the accident had destroyed them. Won Jin Ah was really good as Moon Soo. She was a plain Jane at first, but she managed to shine through. Her dramatic scenes were especially good. Kang Doo is a man with no plan. He is living in the past and struggling to accept his reality. He meets Moon Soo and finally finds a reason to live. Lee Jun Ho of 2PM was a happy surprise. His performance in this drama was great, setting the foundation for a good career, though Wok of Love set that back a little. Main Poster Cinematography The accident was presented decently enough, as it was the main difficulty when it came to cinematography that this drama had. The rest was simply creating a gloomy atmosphere for the romance to flourish. Overall My overall rating is 8 out of 10. Although the drama was really good and the romance sweet and intense, the ending was horrible. I have been watching asian dramas and anime for some years now. My Review Just Between Lovers also known as Rain or Shine is a poignant and beautifully told story about the aftermath of a shopping mall collapse that killed 48 people. The shopping mall in the drama was made up, but it was patterned off of real-life event. In 1995, the Sampoong Department Store in Seoul collapsed killing 502 people and injuring 937. The cause was greed and corruption that lead to substandard materials being used, bad engineering design, pay offs to look the other way and disregard for public safety to make money. Just Between Lovers is set 10 years after the shopping mall collapse. We are introduced to Lee Kang Doo played by2PMs Lee Jun Ho and Ha Moon Soo played by Won Jin Ah who both were victims of the collapse and they both lost family members. Weighted down by their past trauma, they hold guilt for surviving and they still suffer PTSD and flashbacks. Almost every episode has a flashback which reveals more of what happened. At times it can be heavy and a little much, but I think the writers are also trying to get us to feel the pain and constant struggle Moon Soo and Kang Doo face. They can’t ever turn off the images that continue to play in their head, so we experience it with them too. Like in real life, the drama depicts how all the characters that experienced trauma react in different ways. Moon Soo became an architect model maker where she helps to make sure buildings are secure and safe. Her parents separated and her mom has become an alcoholic over the loss of her other daughter, her dad has closed off his emotions and stays quiet. The head architect also linked to the collapse goes beyond the call for safety measures. Kang Doo fell into poverty and had to hustle on the streets to survive. He found a family in “granny” and “noona” and his adorable neighbor Sang Man, who had some type of disability. The pace of the drama may feel a little slow because of the melancholy tone, but the story is actually always progressing. It was only maybe the last 3 episodes I felt it dragging a little when they threw in some extra angst. The writers did a fantastic job of showing the journey of Moon Soo and Kang Doo as they help to heal each other’s pain, learn to lean on one another and accept that they are survivors and they owe it to themselves to live life. Everything they dealt with just seemed so raw and real life. Both their acting was great. I previously saw Won Jin Ah in Melting Me Softly, which was pretty darn horrible and she didn’t impress me, but she was really good in this. I’m not too familiar with Kpop so I didn’t realize that Jun Ho was an idol from 2PM until I finished watching. I thought he was absolutely superb. He had the range of emotions from angry with walls up, vulnerable and crying, angsty, steadfast and a shoulder to lean on, cute and flirty. He did such a great job with the complex emotions that Kang Doo was always experiencing. I’m excited to find out he just got released from the military and we hopefully will see him again soon! My other favorite character was granny. She was a no nonsense grumpy on the surface ahjumma with a huge heart and softness underneath. She took in Kang Doo as her own and nurtured and loved him in her own way. I loved all their scenes together and all her words of wisdom made me smile in how brutally honest she was. Some of her lines were very thought provoking too, for example when she talked about poverty being the biggest killer of people. The lack of access to healthy care or taking dangerous jobs in order to make money all contribute to the poor dying. Just Between Lovers is a contemplative, slice of life drama that shows the pain and healing that occurs after a tragedy. The writing is beautiful and thought provoking, the characters are all so well developed and complex. The acting is heartfelt and raw. It is also a story about the importance of family and friendships. You can’t go it alone and it’s okay to lean on others when you need help. It’s okay to live and survive and to have hope. Final Opinion Must See
